An honest, Australian-owned commerce platform.

Shopkit is the commerce platform we built for our own retail client and then opened up because every Australian small retailer deserves a fairly-priced shop that's built for the way they actually do business.

Who we are

Shopkit is operated by Uplink Web Services — a small Australian development shop based in East Maitland, NSW. We've been building web platforms since the late nineties; Shopkit grew out of a 2026 rebuild we did for The Giftware Hub (the online arm of Greenhills Newsagency).

When that rebuild was done we had a commerce platform that handled wholesale, multi-store pickup, GST + BAS reporting, AusPost integration, customer reminders, and gift cards out of the box. We were going to lock it in our own infrastructure and call it done. Then two other retailers asked if they could use it. Shopkit is the result.

What you get from us

We host every Shopkit instance ourselves on infrastructure we control, in Australia. Each customer gets their own database, their own files, their own systemd unit, their own TLS cert. Tenants are fully isolated — you're not sharing a multi-tenant database with other shops.

Backups are daily, encrypted, off-site (90-day retention). Patching, monitoring, and security are our problem, not yours. If you want your data to take elsewhere — full database dump, all your media, and an env file you can restore from — we hand you a tarball the same day you ask. The export script lives in the open-source repo. See exit policy →

Open source

The underlying commerce platform behind Shopkit is called Counter and is open-source under the AGPL-3.0 licence. We host it as Shopkit; you could host it yourself if you wanted to. We're betting that managed hosting at a fair price is more useful to most retailers than DIY — but if not, the door isn't locked.

Honest pricing

Three plans, all in Australian dollars, all flat monthly licence fees. No setup fees, no take of your transaction volume on top of Stripe's fees. Annual billing saves you two months. You can change tier in-app any time; your data is preserved across changes.
